As an Engineering Specialist (Electrical/Controls), Assembly, you will be very hands-on in supporting the shop to achieve process and KPI improvements through problem solving and project work. You will be involved in capex projects that will involve planning, investigation, and execution of changes and of course, strong project management skills. Your critical thinking and focus on improvement will help you succeed in this role. You should also bring a strong team-first mentality and be able to work with cross-functional groups.

 

What You'll Be Doing

  • Provide, maintain, and audit technical standards for a designated area within the assembly shop
  • Support of yearly corporate objectives, CapEx projects and long term strategic planning
  • Lead daily troubleshooting activities for programming, network, controls, electrical, mechanical, provide solutions and support for process concerns or improvement
  • Make adjustments to machine programs to allow more parts to run, increase efficiency, decrease cycle time, improve throughput
  • Create and modify PLC programs and industrial networks programs to control of electro-mechanical systems
  • Ensure systems are conforming to engineering design standards (Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Electrical Safety Authority Standards, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations of Ontario)
  • Analysis and implementation of countermeasures for safety, quality, & ergonomic concerns
  • Process equipment evaluation, specifications, procurement and implementation
  • Process simulation/bottleneck analysis
  • Provide solutions and support to manufacturing processes and Kaizen activity
  • Budget forecasting and control
  • Cost reduction identification and implementation
  • Co-ordination of external skilled trades/supplier activities

 

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Applied Science, Engineering Degree (P. Eng eligible) Electrical, Controls, Mechatronics, Mechanical
  • Ability to read, understand, modify & program PLC code
  • Experience with PLCs, controls, machine automation and robotic applications
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of SPC (Statistical Process Control) as an analytical tool for process improvement
  • Technical experience/knowledge with torque control, line control systems
  • Project Management skills and experience
  • Multi-disciplinary experience in process or equipment engineering
  • Flexible to accept and prioritize multiple challenges and quick change in priorities
  • Strong problem-solving skills related to quality and productivity KPIs in assembly (automotive preferred)
  • Strong leadership and technical skills
  • Service orientated, hands-on type individual
  • Strong understanding of equipment design and function
  • Experience in assembly plant manufacturing (automotive preferred) with a high emphasis on process, equipment design and system controls is an asset
  • Willing to support daily and weekend overtime requirements as needed
  • Possible travel requirements to USA and Japan
  • Must be flexible to work in Woodstock and/or Cambridge
