Role Overview – #19-005 Engineering Specialist, Paint

As an Engineering Specialist – Paint you will be very hands on in problem solving and project work. You will be involved in capex projects that will involve planning, investigation, and execution of changes and of course, strong project management skills. Your critical thinking and focus on improvement will help you succeed in this role. You should also bring a strong team-first mentality and be able to work with cross functional groups.

 

Position Summary

  • Maintain process standard and drive continuous improvement of manufacturing activities through detailed analytical reviews, process automation and fixture/tooling design
  • Technical lead for cross-functional teams to troubleshoot process/quality/equipment related issues and to help render all processes more efficient
  • Investigate and address issues to ensure safety & ergonomic concerns are resolved in a timely manner
  • Set up proactive countermeasures to reduce or avoid impact to production
  • Lead kaizen projects with an emphasis on cost reduction, cycle time reduction, material flow, quality improvements, and efficient manufacturing processes
  • Manage process improvement projects, support the Quality department and lead the implementation of changes to improve all manufacturing processes
  • Monitor process and equipment performance to identify continuous improvement opportunities
  • Further develop our lean production process to optimize throughput
  • Lead product and process failure investigations to prevent defect flow-out
  • Strategize goals and targets to meet department objectives.  Prepare and present to senior management in department reviews
  • Lead capital investment projects and manage all aspects of execution (i.e. budget, schedule, install, commissioning and buy-off)
  • Evaluate process equipment and tooling requirements, define specifications, lead procurement, and successful integration into plant floor operations, and ensure equipment and systems comply with standards and legislation
  • Collect and archive legal documentation to ensure equipment safety and compliance
  • Manage and schedule equipment refurbishment activities, contractor Preventative Maintenance schedule throughout Paint facilities
  • Support automation troubleshooting
  • Co-ordinate external skilled trades/supplier activities

 

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Engineering Degree - P. Eng eligible (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing)
  • Engineering experience within a high-volume manufacturing environment, preference for automotive manufacturing experience
  • Previous experience with Paint process an asset
  • Automation and controls experience is an asset
  • Strong data analysis, SPC experience required
  • Ability to think critically
  • Proven hands-on problem solving and project management skills
  • Service orientated, hands-on type individual
  • Strong understanding of equipment design and function
  • Multi-disciplinary experience in process or equipment engineering
  • Must be proficient with MS Office and AutoCAD
  • Experience with SAP an asset
  • Willing to support daily and weekend overtime requirements as needed (range of 50-55 hours weekly)
  • Possible travel requirements to USA and Japan, must be legally eligible to enter the USA
  • Must be flexible to work in Cambridge and/or Woodstock
