Role Overview

In our Manufacturing Engineering, Paint role, you will be very hands on in problem solving and project work. You will be involved in capital investment projects which requires strong project management skills. Your critical thinking and focus on improvement will help you succeed in this position. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and collaborate with Production and Maintenance to ensure performance targets are achieved for your assigned process area. A hands-on approach is required as genchi gembutsu or “go and see” is vital to your success in this role.  You should also bring a strong team first mentality and be able to work effectively with cross functional groups.

 

What you’ll be doing

  • Engineering Analyst, South Paint 
  • Work with Production, Maintenance and/or external contractors on kaizen initiatives with an emphasis on quality improvements, material delivery, cycle time reduction and cost reduction
  • Support yearly capital investment projects, managing to a schedule and budget, with focus on equipment refurbishment and replacement
  • Support new technology introduction projects with TMNA affiliates
  • Lead troubleshooting and problem-solving activities, provide solutions and support for process safety/ergonomic, quality and productivity concerns to ensure concerns are resolved in a timely manner
  • Support Shop Key Performance Indicator (KPI) achievement (Safety, Quality, Productivity and Cost)
  • Support Major/Minor Model Change, Takt Change and New Material Introductions
  • Collect and archive legal documentation, to ensure equipment safety and compliance
  • Create, maintain, and audit Paint Shop technical standards
  • Develop management systems to ensure standardization and compliance
  • Process simulation/bottleneck analysis for quality, productivity, or cost improvements

 

Desired Skills and Experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or Manufacturing) or equivalent degree is required
  • Must meet the educational and character requirements for P.Eng. license eligibility
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of post graduate engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is required
  • Engineering experience in a Paint shop environment is preferred
  • Experience leading equipment installation, refurbishment and troubleshooting issues
  • Experience applying manufacturing standards such as Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), Pre Start Health and Safety Review (PSR), Electrical Code, Building Code and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
  • Ability to form collaborative partnerships with customers and work with cross functional groups
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, hands-on problem solving and project management skills
  • Strong understanding of equipment design and function
  • Flexibility to adapt to multiple challenges and quick changes in priorities
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments with autonomy and accountability for results
  • Willing to support daily and weekend overtime requirements as needed
  • Possible travel within North America as well as Overseas (1-2 times/year)
  • Must be flexible to work in Cambridge and/or Woodstock plant locations
